Durban - MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Sikhumbuzo Eric Kholwane says Mpumalanga as South Africa’s tourist destination of choice, has much potential to improve its domestic standing given its diverse offering from cultural experiences and breathtaking scenery. He said this during the occasion of the official launch of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency’s (MTPA) refreshed website during the 2018 Tourism Indaba held at the ICC in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on 09 May 2018.

“I am delighted to be part of the launch of this cutting edge innovation aimed at improving visits from both domestic and international tourists. I believe that our province has much to offer to local and international tourists. We offer diverse cultural experiences, and we are the only province in South Africa which boost a window to God the Almighty - our breathtaking picturesque ‘God’s Window.’ Information released by South African Tourism indicates that Mpumalanga is renowned for shopping, wildlife and natural attractions. The launch of the refreshed website augers well with our intention as a province to grow our tourism sector” said MEC Kholwane.

The Tourism Indaba is an annual event held under the auspices of South African Tourism, which is a continental platform to promote tourism in SADC and Africa. Thousands of people visit the marketing show to interact with businesses, tour operators and tourism marketing agencies spanning from as far as Zambia, Kenya, Mauritius, Lesotho, The Kingdom of Eswatini, to mention but a few. On Tuesday, 08 May 2018, the MEC led a high level Provincial delegation on a walk about at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC and the Durban Exhibition Centre. The Province of the Rising Sun brought 25 product owners to exhibit at the Indaba.

He also attended the Tourism MinMEC - which is an intergovernmental forum on Tourism chaired by the Minister of Tourism, Mr Derrick Hanekom, and attended by the nine tourism MECs in the country, Tourism Director General, Provincial tourism Heads of Departments; and CEOs Tourism Authorities (national and provincial). Speaking at the launch of the Bushbuckridge Tourism Video at the Indaba, a visible elated MEC said “Tourism is our gemstone in Mpumalanga and the launching of this video gives impetus to our effort to promote the Province as the obvious destination for tourists. We will harness it given that it has the potential to create the much needed job opportunities for our people” concluded MEC Kholwane.
