MEC Kholwane urges tour operators to promote township tourism in Mpumalanga

Durban – Whoops and Cheers greeted at Durban Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention center (ICC) during this year Tourism Indaba, when the MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr. Sikhumbuzo kholwane announced that Mpumalanga will be hosting this year World Tourism Day.

Addressing the 21 tour operators from Mpumalanga, during the official welcoming event in (ICC) Durban, MEC For Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr. Sikhumbuzo Kholwane said’’ As a province we are delighted that we will be hosting this year World Tourism Day and part of that we are going to build up events which will promote tourism and part of that will include promoting township tourism which has been neglected lately by tour operators ‘’

I am also happy to announce that Mpumalanga Cabinet have instructed the Department of Economic Development and Tourism to establish a creative industry commission, and also tasked the department to take a lead in reviving Pilgrim Rest which has been the center of controversy for quite some time‘’

As part of promoting tourism in Mpumalanga, the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) have signed an agreement with the Ural Tourism Association last month which aimed at increasing the number of Tourist from Russia to visit Mpumalanga and the Tria- land countries which include Swaziland and Mozambique ‘’ said MEC Sikhumbuzo Kholwane .

Speaking at the same event Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) Board Chairperson, Mr. Thulani Nzima said ‘’As Mpumalanga we are going to participate in international Tourism shows such as Durban Indaba , and others that will market and promote Mpumalanga as the leading tourism destination in the World .

We are confident that working together with the private sector and all stakeholders in the tourism industry there will be nothing that will see tourism became the driver of job creation in Mpumalanga concluded – Mr. Thulani Nzima
