Manyeleti - MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Sikhumbuzo Eric Kholwane says while the world celebrates World Rangers Day, we need to be mindful of the sad realities faced by our rangers daily. We also need to take a moment and pay homage to those rangers who perished in the line of duty. The MEC said these moving statements during the World Rangers’ Day, on Monday, 31 July 2017, at Manyeleti.
The event was organized and hosted by our public entity, the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) to celebrate and acknowledge the good work done by rangers across the world and particularly in the province. The MTPA used the occasion to reaffirm its support to rangers in their battle against poaching.
"As government, we are also concerned about the poaching syndicates who are prepared to pay large amounts of money to potential poachers from within our communities and neighboring countries. Those syndicates have now started poaching even elephants and lions. Recently it has been reported that at least 30 elephants have been poached in Kruger National Park so far, "said MEC kholwane
MEC Kholwane concluded his address by saying “as a Department, through the MTPA, we will continue to provide adequate support to rangers to enable them to successfully combat poaching. As a society, we need to roll up our sleeves and wage a huge battle against these evil deeds. It is the responsibility of all of us to denounce this evil phenomenal wherever it occurs.
